Hi, I'm Miguel

I am a nature and sports photographer with a practical and intentional approach.
I work with patience, technical precision, and a strong awareness of light, movement, and timing.

Background
From an early stage, photography became a way for me to observe and register moments with intention.
When I started working, I chose to invest my first salary in a camera and began photographing surf, influenced by living close to the ocean. It was a practical and direct introduction to working with movement, timing, and constantly changing environments.
Although I had always been connected to nature and grew up surrounded by it, photography and the natural world remained, for some time, two separate paths.
That changed in 2023, during a trip to Costa Rica. Being immersed in wildlife and natural environments made the connection clear — photography and nature were not separate interests, but parts of the same approach.
Since that moment, I have deliberately invested in technical knowledge, field experience, and consistency. Photography is now a daily practice, approached with discipline and long-term commitment rather than spontaneity.
My work - featured in National Geographic Portugal.
The photograph later featured by National Geographic Portugal was the result of long-term observation rather than a single moment.
For over a year, I was aware of the presence of a European Otter in that area. I returned to the location dozens of times, often before sunrise, without ever seeing it.
When the encounter finally happened, it was brief and unpredictable. Remaining still and unobtrusive, I allowed the animal to move naturally through the space, passing at very close range before continuing on its way.
The image reflects patience, familiarity with the environment, and respect for the subject — values that define my approach to wildlife photography.
